Illustrator Matt Furie created his most popular drawing, Pepe the Frog, without thinking too much. The drawing, captioned “Feels Good Man”, was meant to convey the carefree spirit of his student days, and inadvertently became famous for it. But soon enough, the circle of internet users who loved Pepe began to use it in a very different way. The frog meme was accompanied by outright insults and threats. And Pepe’s name even came up in the debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. The hatred that we would censor in any other way has somehow escaped through the use of the frog.
