During the training session, the participants will find out how to use bibliographical management program “Mendeley“. The participants will learn how to create user accounts, preserve bibliographical data and create bibliographical records manually. Furthermore, the participants will get learn how to install a plugin to the Microsoft Word program, allowing to insert in-text citations and automatically generating a list of references according to the selected citation style.

You will get acquainted with KTU subscribed and purchased e-resources. You will learn the types of databases in terms of content and access, also how to choose the most appropriate electronic resource for your studies or project, how to search the database using search operators. You will also learn why it is worth creating a personal account in the database. During the demo, you’ll see how to search databases, download and save to your device e-book or article from database.

The course is intended to provide understanding of Intellectual Property and why there exists a right to protect it. The nuances of the branches of the IPR will be addressed to create an understanding of where and how to use them to protect intellectual property. As licensing is a vast portion in academic IPR with Open Science practices, the importance, types, what to use when and how will be discussed. It will cover general licensing information along with creative commons copyrights information relevant to current practices.

This session will introduce you to the concept of Open Science. It is a brief training session to understand the different elements: Open Access Publishing, Open Data, Citizen Science that contribute to the concept. As Open Science is a vast concept, the session will serve as a step in getting acquainted with what, how and why we need it as students, researchers, citizens and so on stating the do’s and don’ts of the practice.
