The bibliographic management program RefWorks will be renamed EndNote Fusion

Important | 2026-08-18

We would like to inform you that starting in October this year, the bibliographic record management program RefWorks will be renamed to EndNote Fusion. The RefWorks and EndNote Online programs will be merged. RefWorks users’ existing data, institutional settings, and daily work processes will remain unchanged, no action will be required. Although the RefWorks name will disappear, the program’s capabilities will be preserved and supplemented with new ones, and the colors and design will be updated.

The main principle behind the launch of EndNote Fusion is business continuity. EndNote Fusion is set to incorporate task-based artificial intelligence features that will help researchers work more efficiently with their collected literature. The system will be able to identify connections between sources, suggest possible next steps, or help guide research directions. The new features will help not only with managing citations but also with preparing scholarly texts. The system will be able to suggest related or important key articles and automatically identify potential issues in reference lists, among other things.

EndNote Desktop users will not need to make any changes this year. This version will continue to be fully supported, while EndNote Fusion will become an additional option for accessing cloud-based features, such as centralized administration and Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions.
