Open Access Week 2026 at KTU Library

Important | 2026-10-19

The theme of International Open Access Week 2026, “The Cost of Knowledge,” encourages discussion on the financial, human, and environmental costs associated with the creation, publication, dissemination, and long-term preservation of scholarly knowledge, while highlighting the need for sustainable and equitable open science models that ensure knowledge remains accessible to all.

From 20 to 23 October, KTU Library invites researchers, academic staff, doctoral candidates, and students to participate in a series of events dedicated to International Open Access Week. Throughout the programme, participants will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of scholarly communication, researcher visibility, research data management, and citizen science, strengthen their open science competencies, and promote the responsible and broad dissemination of research outcomes.

This year, special attention will be given to citizen science, which enables members of the public to actively contribute to research, participate in the creation of new knowledge, and strengthen the dialogue between science and society.

Throughout October, visitors are also invited to experience the escape room “Professor Rutenis’ Laboratory”, where they can not only test their problem-solving skills but also explore the principles of open science in an engaging and interactive way. Registration: renata.linkuviene@ktu.lt.
