Exhibition “Personal Library of Paulius Galaunė“

Rare books group collected an exhibition “Personal Library of Paulius Galaunė”. The exhibition will be open for visitors until the 3rd of November.

P. Galaunė – Lithuanian painter, art historian, pioneer of Lithuanian professional museums, 1925-1939 – lecturer at the University of Lithuania.

Art historian was particularly focused on registration of Lithuanian cultural monuments, protection of historical, archaeological, architectural monuments. He preserved, analysed and systematized works of folk and professional art.

P. Galaunė initiated establishment of Čiurlionis gallery, 1924-1936 was head of this gallery, 1936-1944 – head of Vytautas Magnus Culture Museum , 1944-1949 – director of Čiurlionis gallery.

In exhibition presented books from the personal collection of Paulius Galaunė. According to the records in Library inventory books, these books in the 4th decade of XX century were given to the library. The collection consists of books in Polish, Russian, French, German languages (1st half of XIX-XX century) and several iconographic documents.
