The Library offers group sessions or one-to-one training for you to make the most of our resources. We can also assist in developing your study skills by offering courses on how to evaluate information sources and references properly and to avoid plagiarism.

 

Training sessions

Bibliographical references management program Mendeley

Duration: 45 minutes
Target audience: All students, researchers, lecturers
Place: All KTU libraries, distance learning.

During the training session, the participants will find out how to use bibliographical management program “Mendeley“. The participants will learn how to create user accounts, preserve bibliographical data and create bibliographical records manually. Furthermore, the participants will get learn how to install a plugin to the Microsoft Word program, allowing to insert in-text citations and automatically generating a list of references according to the selected citation style.

Duration: 45 minutes

The participants will learn about the reference management program ”RefWorks“ subscribed by KTU. In the training session, the participants will learn how to create user accounts, preserve bibliographical data and create bibliographical records manually. Databases presentations

Duration: 45 minutes

You will get acquainted with KTU subscribed and purchased e-resources. You will learn the types of databases in terms of content and access, also how to choose the most appropriate electronic resource for your studies or project, how to search the database using search operators. You will also learn why it is worth creating a personal account in the database. During the demo, you’ll see how to search databases, download and save to your device e-book or article from database.

How to cite and prepare a list of references (APA citation style)

Duration: 45 minutes
Target audience: All students
Place: All KTU libraries, distance learning.

Different styles of citation used in Lithuania and abroad will be introduced. APA citation style will be presented. The concept of copyrights, plagiarism prevention and instructions on how to provide in-text citations will be explained in detail. The participants of this training session will learn how to provide in-text citation and prepare a list of references.

Duration: 45 minutes

Different styles of citation used in Lithuania and abroad will be introduced. ISO 690:2010 citation style will be presented in detail. The concept of copyrights, plagiarism prevention and instructions on how to provide in-text citations will be explained. The participants of this training session will learn how to provide in-text citations and prepare a list of references according to ISO 690:2021 standard.

How to find the information resources for your master thesis/ course paper? (technological and physical sciences)

Duration: 45 minutes
Target audience: All students
Place: All KTU libraries, distance learning.

The students will learn how to plan their search, strategy: select proper keywords, information search tools, formulate an inquiry for search system or selected database. The information search tools and the possibilities of their use will be presented. The students will learn how to evaluate the search results, specify a search question, select the reliable, thematically appropriate resources and familiarize with search peculiarities in e-books, journal articles, conference proceedings, statistical data, final thesis, doctoral dissertations and other resources.

Duration: 45 minutes

The students will learn how to plan their search, strategy: select proper key words, information search tools, formulate an inquiry for search system or selected database. The information search tools and the possibilities of their to use will be presented. The students will learn how to evaluate the search results, specify a search question, select the reliable, thematically appropriate resources and familiarize with search peculiarities in e-books, journal articles, conference proceedings, statistical data, final thesis, doctoral dissertations and other resources.

Final degree project: how to check similarity in the Turnitin system and upload to eLABa repository

Duration: Theoretical lecture – 45 minutes, theoretical lecture with the practice – 1 hour 30 minutes
Target audience: Bachelor’s and Master‘s degree students
Place: All KTU libraries, distance learning.

The students will familiarize with eLABa repository storing the final degree projects, doctoral dissertations and dissertation summaries. During the training session, the login links to eLABa repository will be provided, as well as the methodological material and instructions on how to upload an e-document to a repository, how to prepare metadata and the main file. The students will learn how to select a subject field and area, key-words, how to prepare an annotation, what are the main elements of PDF file, how to detect plagiarism. Practical examples of how to upload a final degree project will be presented. During the consultations, the students can log in to eLABa repository and upload their final degree projects.

Intellectual property rights and plagiarism prevention

Duration: 45 minutes
Target audience: All students, researchers, lecturers
Place: All KTU libraries, distance learning.

The students will get familiar with the intellectual property law, the copyright and related rights act, the property and non-property rights, the requirements applied to the use of the works by other authors for teaching and research, learn about the Creative Commons licenses allowing to use the works by other authors and indicating the conditions which allow to share and use the works without copyright infringement.

Information Library System

Duration: 45 min.
Target audience: first-year students
Place: all KTU libraries, distance learning.

You will learn about the library’s information system and services: library resources, services, website, social networking tools. You will learn how to use the library’s e-catalogue, find literature for study modules, order books for home delivery, extend the return period, etc.

MS Word training course

Duration: 45 minutes
Target audience: All students
Place: All KTU libraries, distance learning.

The training will provide useful tips on how to facilitate work on text documents, taking into account the KTU guidelines for the preparation of essays. The basic settings for text documents (page position, margins, fonts, sizes, styles), automatic content of tables, list of figures, automatic creation of general content, breaks, links, bookmarks, cross-references, insertion of references, etc.
