Research results visibility: what can a researcher do to increase it?

Important | 2020-01-22

Over 2.5 million research papers are published every year. Even though it might be challenging to make publications stand out, researchers can create persistent digital identifier to increase their publications visibility.

Persistent digital identifier

Many academic libraries encourage researchers to create their own persistent identifier. Most frequently recommended identifier ORCHID ID. It is unique, persistent digital identifiers, which researcher can create within a couple of minutes. This identifiers helps to identify all research outputs of an author (publications, patents, projects and other research production). ORCHID ID allows to ensure that researcher will not be mistaken for someone else with the same surname or after surname or institution is changed.

ORCHID ID benefits:

  • Identifier is created once and for all;
  • publications and other research results become more visible;
  • all publications from different databases can be linked;
  • increased visibility. Researcher can indicate link to his ORCHID ID at the university website, CV or include in e-mail signature;
  • researcher is an administrator of his ORCHID ID account as a result he can include publications and related data as well as comments and notes from other researchers;
  • ORCHID ID could be linked to other digital identifiers such as Researcher ID, Scopus Author ID.
