KTU Library’s announcement on Citizen Science at an International Conference

On December 2–3, 2024, the international conference „Biržiškos skaitymai‘24“ took place in Panevėžys, focusing on the connections between citizen science and culture. Aistė Pranckutė, Head of the Scientific Information Department at KTU Library, presented a talk prepared in collaboration with KTU Library Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gintarė Tautkevičienė. Their presentation explored the roles of libraries and librarians in citizen science projects, the competencies needed to carry out citizen science activities, and ways to develop and improve those skills.

Aistė Pranckutė, together with other librarians, researchers, and those interested in the relationship between citizen science and culture, discussed the role of libraries in community-based citizen science projects. She highlighted the current state of academic libraries, their potential involvement in advancing citizen science initiatives, and the opportunities for collaboration between public and academic libraries to connect the academic community with the broader public.

Other presentations at the conference shared insights and ideas from libraries in Lithuania and abroad, showcasing activities that foster community engagement and encourage citizen participation in cultural sector citizen science initiatives.
