ECSA 2026 Conference: Citizen Science bridging Centre and Periphery

The 6th European Citizen Science Association (ECSA) Conference will take place on 3–6 March 2026 in Oulu, Finland. The event will be hosted by the University of Oulu, and in 2026 the city of Oulu will hold the title of the European Capital of Culture.

The conference will bring together citizen science researchers and practitioners, scholars, policymakers, activists, artists, and representatives from various sectors. The event aims to strengthen international collaboration networks and advance the role of citizen science across Europe.
The theme of the 2026 conference is Citizen Science bridging Centre and Periphery. The theme highlights the diversity between regions, from urban metropolitan areas to remote northern and southern territories. The conference will explore the relevance of citizen science to:

  • sustainable development,
  • culture and history,
  • political and legal systems,
  • natural resources,
  • public health and other societal dimensions.
