Lending Services

  • The University Library is the most important resource of information needed for studies and research. There are six libraries within KTU, situated in the city centre and in the main campus.
  • All KTU libraries are open to the public. The rules and regulations of the University Library apply to the library visitor/user according to his/her status: a student, a University employee or a member of general public.

The Student Card

  • The Lithuanian Student Identity Cards (LSIC) and the International Student Identity Cards (ISIC) (hereinafter — Student Card) can be used as library cards for the students. All other library users are required to present a passport or a (personal) identity card. The Student Card is a valid document. Borrowers are responsible for all the loans made with their Student Card until the loans are returned. The loss of the Student‘s Card must be reported immediately to the University Library, and the Student Card will then be blocked.
  • All borrowers must use their Student Card/Identity Card each time a loan is made.

Loans and Reservations

  • Most of the latest (recent) items are freely accessible on open shelves. University students and employees can borrow (or book for later usage) books and other items from the library collection. Before borrowing, users have to order items from the Library catalogue or book them at KTU virtual library. Loans should be registered at the information desk. Borrowers must treat the property of the Library with care and protect it from damage.

Loan Period

  • The loan period for the course books is from 7 days to 6 months.
  • For other items it may range from 1 to 30 days.
  • All borrowed items must be returned before the end of the loan period. Knowing when the Library items are due, and returning or renewing the loans on time, is the borrower’s responsibility.

Renewal of Loans

  • Renewal of loans may be made if the item has not been reserved by another person and your debt does not exceed 5 EUR.
  • Renewals can be made via the catalogue or KTU virtual library homepage; you can also renew your loan by phoning or visiting your nearest library information desk.

Items not to be borrowed

  • Items which may not be borrowed from the Library are: reference literature, journals, daily newspapers, official statistics, dissertations and their summaries, old items and literature which is necessary for study and research in the library.

Overdue Items (loans)

  • When the loan period has ended you will receive an e-mail from the Library suggesting that you either renew or return the loan. If you fail to do this you will be charged a fee of 0,10 EUR per day for one overdue item.
  • For payment voucher please phone, e-mail or visit your nearest library information desk. Students may also ask the Library to form the payment voucher via AIS (Academic Information System).

Interlibrary Loan Services

  • Researchers and students can request interlibrary loan of the material that is not held at any library of the University.
  • All interlibrary loans are fee-based. Users should cover sending expenses.
  • You can make interlibrary loan request at the Central Library by e-mail


  • Knowing when the library items are due and returning items on time is the borrower’s responsibility.
  • Any borrower who does not return his/her loan on time will be suspended from the Library and will be liable to pay compensation. Suspension ceases when the items are returned and/or all debts to the library are settled.
  • Borrower, upon losing or irreparably damaging the item, will have to replace it with a new copy of the exact book or an equivalent item, approved by the Library from the included list. Before repurchasing the book you should consult with the library from which you borrowed the item.
  • All graduating students (before diploma awards or termination of their studies) as well as all employees who have terminated the employment contract or left for a long-term internship or vacation are required to return the borrowed items or to pay for the lost ones.
  • Students can check their current status with the library in KTU Academic Information System (AIS). The process is explained in short guide. When the settlement with the Library is confirmed in the AIS, coming to the Library is not required.

Subscribed databases and catalogues

Users are allowed to:

  1. Use electronic resources for studies or research without infringing on copyright laws.
  2. Use electronic resources (download/print/copy to an external hard drive) only for personal usage and in small quantities. In one session you can download no more than: 2 articles from one issue of an electronic journal, and 20 % of an electronic book.

​​Users are not allowed to:

  1. Use software that allows to download and save information on the computer.
  2. Copy, print, move the whole journal issue or electronic book to the computer.
  3. Upload the information from subscribed databases on the internet; share the information with the third parties or use the information for commercial purposes.

Access to subscribed databases:

The access to the subscribed databases is available through KTU computer networks. If you want to use the databases at home, you can choose among the following:

  • VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a network service that allows KTU employees and students to log into University’s computers. You can find information on how to install VPN here.
  • Remote access (EZproxy). Using remote access KTU members can log in using a unanimous username and password.

Academic Search Complete (EBSCO Publishing) –  A comprehensive scholarly, multi-disciplinary full text database, with more than 5,300 full text periodicals, including 4,400 peer-reviewed journals. Video guide.

AccessEngineering – An engineering reference tool for professionals, academics, and students that provides access to the collection of authoritative, regularly updated engineering reference information. Access Engineering also comprises dynamic online features, such as instructional, faculty made videos, calculators, interactive tables and charts. More.

ACM Digital Library – The ACM Digital Library is a research, discovery and networking platform containing publications, including journals, conference proceedings, technical magazines, newsletters and books covering the field of computer science.

ACS (American Chemistry Society) – ACS provides access to 51 peer-reviewed journals covering various fields of chemistry science.

AHFS Consumer Medication Information (EBSCO Publishing) – More than 1,450 detailed records for prescription drugs from the American Hospital Formulary Service, with information couched in layman’s terms. Available in both English and Spanish.

AIP: American Institute of Physics – Access provided to 6 subscribed peer-reviewed journals published by American Institutes of Physics. Journal list is here (link to PDF file).

Bentham Science Publishers (archive) – Archive of full-text journal articles and book chapters in medicine, chemistry, biomedicine, pharmacy areas. Access provided to documents published in 2006.

Business Source Complete (EBSCO Publishing) – Updated monthly. A scholarly business database providing a collection of bibliographic and full text content in all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance and economics.


Cambridge Journals Online (archive) – Provides full text for archive of journals published by Cambridge University Press. Includes titles in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Full text access to journals published from 2003 to 2006.

Computers & Applied Sciences Complete (EBSCO Publishing) – Computer & Applied Science Complete (CASC) covers the research and development spectrum of the computing and applied sciences disciplines. CASC provides indexing and abstracts for more than 2,100 academic journals, professional publications, and other reference sources from a diverse collection. Full text is also available for more than 1,000 periodicals. Subject areas include the many engineering disciplines, computer theory & systems, new technologies, and social & professional context.

EconLit with Full Text (EBSCO Publishing) – EconLit with Full Text contains all of the indexing available in EconLit, plus full text for nearly 600 journals, including the American Economic Association journals with no embargo (American Economic Review, Journal of Economic Literature, Journal of Economic Perspectives, and the four American Economic Journal titles). This database also contains many non-English full-text journals in economics and finance. Volume and issue browsing is available for all full-text journals.

Education Source (EBSCO Publishing) – Education Source is designed to meet the needs of education students, professionals and policy makers. The collection provides indexing and abstracts for more than 2,850 academic periodicals and includes full text for more than 1,800 journals, 550 books and monographs, education-related conference papers, citations for over 4 million articles including book reviews and over 100,000 controlled and cross-referenced names of educational tests. European Views of the Americas: 1493 to 1750  (EBSCO Publishing) – Bibliographical database containing more than 32,000 entries of documents covering the history of European exploration as well as portrayals of native American peoples.

InCites (Clarivate Analytics) – It is a customized web-based research evaluation tool allowing users to view research output performance at an organizational, regional, individual or journal level. MasterFILE Premier (EBSCO Publishing) – MasterFILE Premier provides full text for over 1,800 general interest, business, consumer health, general science, and multicultural periodicals. In addition, this database offers indexing and abstracts for over 2,500 periodicals.

MEDLINE (EBSCO Publishing) – An authoritative bibliographic database containing citations and abstracts for biomedical and health journals used by health care professionals, nurses, clinicians and researchers engaged in clinical care, public health and health policy development.


Nature – Nature magazine is an interdisciplinary, weekly, science journal. Full-text access is available to journal published from 2006 to present.

Newspaper Source (EBSCO Publishing) – This database provides cover-to-cover full text for hundreds of national (U.S.), international and regional newspapers. In addition, it offers television and radio news transcripts from major networks.


OECD iLibrary – Online library of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) featuring its books, papers and statistics and is the gateway to OECD’s analysis and data. Themes: economics, finance, trade, agriculture, energy, transport, education, environment, management, etc.

Institutional repository KTU ePubl

KTU ePubl – is an open access institutional repository of Kaunas University of Technology. It was established to offer a central location for the collection, long-term preservation and dissemination of scholarly, research and teaching output of the members of the university community.
It archives research publications and other materials produced at the university:

  • scholarly monographs, studies and other research publications;
  • textbooks and other study materials;
  • full texts and summaries of doctoral dissertations; Master’s theses;
  • academic papers published as conference proceedings, etc.

KTU ePubl consist of two sub-systems:

  • ETD (electronic thesis and dissertation) – degree final projects, doctoral dissertations and its’ summaries metadata, full- text documents.
  • PDB (publication database) – research publication metadata and full-text documents.

Publications written by university employees are registered to PDB sub-system, on it’s basis research publications reports are generated and provided for competitions and attestations of scientists and doctoral students.

From 2016 all final projects are checked with electronic plagiarism detection system ESAS.

Lithuanian Academic Electronic Library eLABa

Lithuanian academic electronic library information system (eLABa) – is a national Lithuanian academic electronic library which preserves and provides public access to research and studies documents and its’ metadata.

eLABa consists of:

  • eLABa managers’ research and study documents metadata database;
  • eLABa users database;
  • Lithuanian electronic thesis and dissertations database (ETD);
  • Lithuanian research and studies publication database (PDB);
  • Electronic objects repository;
  • Statistical database;
  • Authority records database;
  • Digitalized documents database;
  • Universal decimal classification database (UDK);
  • eLABa administrative database;
  • Lithuanian virtual library (LVL), created by automating libraries, unifying search and access to electronic information resources and virtual services.

In Lithuanian academic electronic library eLABa is a possibility to upload publications, generate new statistical reports and printout publication bibliographical references. In Publication database (PDB) new records are no longer added. This sub-system stores records of publications written by university employees also it allows to generate statistical reports, printout publication bibliography lists.

Internet and Computer Services, Copying and Printing

Internet and computer services

  • Internet and computer services can be used in the Central Library and in the faculty libraries.
  • Computer workplaces are intended for individual and group work, and for information search on the internet and databases.
  • The Single Sign-On (SSO) service is used at KTU and the libraries for access to all computers and information resources.
  • The library provides eduroam network services. All members of Lithuanian and overseas institutions that are a part of eduroam network can use these services.

Library laptop and multimedia lending

  • University community members can borrow a laptop, projector for use in the library. Users must provide a valid Lithuanian Student Identity Card (LSIC), employee ID card, personal identity card or passport.

Self-service copying and printing

  • Photocopying with self-service photocopiers and printing from the library computers are charged at 0,04 EUR per sheet.
  • Photocopying with self-service photocopiers and printing in color from the library computers are charged at 0,29 EUR per sheet.
  • Scanning of documents is charged at 0,02 EUR per sheet.
  • Price of A3 format sheet doubles.

In excursion, you will hear the history how Library was established, visit book stocks, see the oldest book preserved in Kaunas libraries, the oldest printed books – incunabulum, library fragments, which belonged to famous people or manors.

Services for students with special needs

Adjustable tables and chairs for readers who have movement disabilities are located in every Library of Kaunas University of Technology. In addition, specialized computer mice and keyboards for readers who have kinetic disabilities can be found in every library.

The SARA CE (Scanning and Reading Appliance, Camera Edition) is the next-generation self-contained scanning and reading appliance for the blind and those with low vision:

Video magnifier Topaz XL XD 24′ for readers with vision impairment:

Services for KTU Alumni

Information resources in the Library

KTU Alumni registration and services in the Library:

  • Graduates are registered after providing a valid passport or an identity card.
  • Library visiting graduates are annually re-registered.
  • Services for graduates are provided after valid passport / identity card is presented.

KTU Alumni are welcome to participate in training sessions, conferences and other events organized in the Library. Training courses schedule.

Unique Library Treasures Tour

The Library of Kaunas University of Technology has many early printed books – incunabula – and quite a few interesting items from famous personalities’ and manors’ libraries. KTU graduates can see cultural heritage and get acquainted with the rich history of the Library while taking part in the Tour, which should be booked in advance.
