Lists of references are made in accordance to rules and standards. Below is the list of issues to consider.

  1. Students must follow the instructions of their supervisors and faculty.
  2. Before submitting a scholarly article to a journal, authors need to be acquainted with the “house style”,  i.e. specific requirements of the publisher regarding bibliographic references and literature lists.
  3. In the absence of guidance on the rules of bibliographic references, the following general recommendations should be considered at KTU:
  • Research papers in Social Sciences and Humanities use APA citation style. Check out video material and presentations about APA.
  • Research papers in Physical and Technological Sciences use the international LST ISO 690:2010 standard. Check out video material and presentations about LST ISO 690:2010.

RefWorks and Mendeley applications will help you to make reference lists. By using these tools, you can:

  • to save information sources, their bibliographic entries
  • to sort the entries to catalogues according to topics or other indicators
  • to  edit, make an entry search
  • to make lists of references according to various citation styles
  • to use MS Word tool that allows inserting bibliographic references to the text, tools that help to prepare lists of references, etc.

The Library organises training sessions on how to use these applications. Please, check under Training Resources.
