About exhibition

The Library of Kaunas University of Technology and Kaunas District Museum, located at Raudondvaris Manor, prepared an exhibition of rare books, which aims to take from funds and comprehensively present to society and academic community the most valuable part of the scattered library of the Counts Tyszkiewicz (Tiškevičiai) of Raudondvaris Manor – publications of the 15th–17th centuries, stored at KTU Library.

In 1930 Walter Fischer, the owner of German bookstore in Kaunas, gave a part of the library of Counts Tyszkiewicz of Raudondvaris (7874 books) as a gift to Vytautas Magnus University. Over time, a large part of these books was handed over to the Public Library of Kaunas County, Library of Vilnius University and other libraries. Now more than 800 exemplars of the books, which belonged to the Counts of Raudondvaris, are stored at the Fund of Rare Publications at KTU Library.

From the History of Kaunas University of Technology: the Rector Antanas Purėnas’ legacy to the library

About exhibition

Antanas Purėnas was a lecturer at Higher Courses in 1921–1922, in 1922 was a professor of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Lithuania and Head of Department of Organic Chemistry. In 1922–1926 A. Purėnas was a secretary of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and in 1924–1925 – secretary of the University. Later he worked at that position at Faculty of Technologies at Vytautas Magnus University and Faculty of Chemical Technologies at Kaunas Polytechnic Institute. He was a Head of Department until 1962, in 1933-1940 he was Vice-Rector and in 1940–1941 and 1944-1947 Rector of the University.

Book by T. Gaspar Schott: a member of Society of Jesus, also a professor of mathematics at the Gymnasium of Society of Jesus.

The book provides useful knowledge and descriptions of scientific and mechanical technology devices. First chapters provide descriptions of aerostatics research by Guericke and Bouyle and tractate “Mirabilia chronometrica” provides first universal classification of gear teeth.

Old portrait photography of Kaunas

About exhibition

Collection reveals a part of iconographic heritage of Kaunas city. Museums, libraries and collectors of the city have significant collections of urban, event and portrait photography. Library of Kaunas University collected a fund of about 3 000 iconography units. It was inherited by library of Kaunas University of Technology.

160 photographs were selected for collection and systemized chronologically, emphasizing the photographers’ workshops that were more notable. The main features of development of Kaunas commercial and fine-art photography were revealed in the second half of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century and the third and fourth decade of the 20th century. Collection reflects various aspects of interesting and live image of the city’s past, reviving authentic cultural and social environment of its citizens.

Collection was prepared based on archived and published sources.
